Clive Owen

Clive Owen is an Academy Award -nominated, and Golden Globe- and BAFTA-award winning English actor, now a regular performer in Hollywood and independent American films.

Shoot'em Up

The fourth of five brothers, Owen was born in October 3, 1964 in Coventry, West Midlands, England, the son of Pamela and Jess Owen. His father, a country and western singer, left the family when Owen was three years old, and despite a brief reconciliation when Owen was nineteen, the two have remained estranged. Raised by his mother and step-father, a railway ticket clerk, he has described his childhood as "rough." While initially opposed to drama school, he changed his mind in 1984, after a long and fruitless period of searching for work. Owen graduated from RADA in 1987 with a class that included Ralph Fiennes and Jane Horrocks. After graduation, he won a position at the Young Vic, performing in several William Shakespeare plays. In an incident he later described as "very schmaltzy," he met his future wife when the two performed the leads in Romeo and Juliet.

Initially, Owen carved out a career in television: in 1988 Owen starred as Gideon Sarn in a BBC television production of Precious Bane and the Channel 4 film Vroom before the 1990s saw him become a regular on stage and television in the UK, notably his lead role in the ITV series Chancer followed by an appearance in the Thames Television production of Lorna Doone.

Cilve Owen with his Wife

He won critical acclaim for his performances in a 1991 Stephen Poliakoff film called Close My Eyes, about a brother and sister who embark on an incestuous love affair. Due to personal conflicts with the press, Owen decided not to appear in television programmes for a while. However, he subsequently appeared in The Magician, Class Of '61, Century, Nobody's Children, An Evening With Gary Lineker, Doomsday Gun, Return Of The Native, The Turnaround and then a Carlton production called Sharman, about a private detective. In 1996 he appeared in his first major Hollywood film The Rich Man's Wife alongside Halle Berry before finding international acclaim in a Channel 4 film directed by Mike Hodges called Croupier in 1998. He played the title role of a struggling writer who takes a job in a London casino as inspiration for his work, only to get caught up in a robbery scheme. In 1999 he appeared as an accident-prone driver in Split Second, his first BBC production for a decade.

In the Movie Shoot'em Up

He then starred in The Echo, a BBC1 drama. He also starred in a film called Greenfingers about a criminal who goes to work in a garden, before appearing in the BBC1 mystery series Second Sight, in which he played DCI Ross Tanner. In 2001 he provided the voice-over for a BBC2 documentary about popular music through the years called Walk On By, as well as starring in a highly-acclaimed theatre production called The Day In The Death Of Joe Egg, about a couple with a severely handicapped daughter.

He became well known to North American audiences in the summer of 2001 after starring as The Driver in the The Hire, a series of short films sponsored by BMW and made by prominent directors. He then appeared in Robert Altman's Gosford Park, alongside an all-star cast including Helen Mirren and Ryan Phillippe. He has also appeared in The Bourne Identity with American actor Matt Damon. In 2003, he teamed up with Hodges again to make I'll Sleep When I'm Dead. He also starred in Beyond Borders and took on the title role in King Arthur. He took horse-riding lessons for the latter role.

Owen appeared in the West End and Broadway hit play Closer, by Patrick Marber, which again became a film, and was released in 2005. It is interesting to note that he played "Dan" in the play, but was "Larry" the dermatologist in the film version. His blistering, darkly comic portrayal of Larry in the film version earned him a lot of recognition as well as the Golden Globe and BAFTA award and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He noted that the expectations of him since the Oscar nomination have not changed the way he approaches film-making, stating "I try, every film I do, to be as good as I can and that's all I can do.

SIN CITY

After Closer, he appeared in Derailed alongside Jennifer Aniston, the comic book thriller Sin City as the noir antihero Dwight McCarthy and as a mysterious bank robber in Inside Man. Despite public denials, Owen had long been rumored to be a possible successor to Pierce Brosnan in the role of James Bond. A public opinion poll in the United Kingdom in October 2005 (SkyNews) found that he was the public's number one choice to star in the next installment of the series. In that same month, however, it was announced that British actor Daniel Craig would become the next James Bond. In an interview in the September 2007 issue of Details, he claimed that he was never offered or even approached concerning the role. In 2006, Owen spoofed the Bond connection by making an appearance in the remake of The Pink Panther in which he plays a character named "Nigel Boswell, Agent 006" (when he introduces himself to Inspector Clouseau he quips that Owen's character is "one short of the big time").

In 2006, Owen starred in the highly acclaimed Children of Men. He received widespread praise for his role as the former political activist-turned-reluctant hero Theo Faron. The film was nominated for various awards including an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay; Owen worked on the screenplay, although he was uncredited. The next year he starred alongside Paul Giamatti in the film Shoot 'Em Up and appeared as Sir Walter Raleigh opposite Cate Blanchett's Elizabeth I of England in the film Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

DERAILED

In 2007, Owen appeared in the Christmas special of the Ricky Gervais show Extras, as revealed in the video pod cast teaser. He also uttered the immortal phrase "Fuck off, I'm Clive Owen, That's mental" when presented with a woman who he was supposed to have slept with in a film.

Owen lives in London and Wrabness, North Essex, with his wife Sarah-Jane Fenton and their two daughters, Hannah and Eve.

In November 2006, he became patron of the Electric Palace Cinema in Harwich, England and launched an appeal for funds to repair deteriorating elements of the fabric.

Duty towards Animals

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

"Reciting Salawath on our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is an activity that will be accepted by Allah, even if we don't have Ikhlas (piety)".

Kindness to Animals. Ants, worms, beasts and men moving with a life are animals. Man, being the noblest of animals, has got a duty towards other animals and that is regulated by the rule of proximity as described in the previous section. Animals have got same characteristics of appetites like men and therefore their natural wants should be supplied by men. In default, sin will be committed according to Islam. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) saw a woman suffering punishment in hell, as she confined a cat and did not allow it food and drink till it died. The sin of a woman was forgiven by Allah as she gave water to a thirsty dog. Good treatment to animals regarding riding, food and drink was always encouraged in the shape of rewards. He said: Verily the Almighty Allah inscribed kindness on everything; so when you slaughter good; you sacrifice, make your sacrifice good. Let everybody sharpen his knife, and give ease to his sacrifice animal. He forbade keeping an animal waiting for slaughter or taking it fore mere sport.

No escape from animal sacrifice. Questions may be asked to why sacrifice of animals was allowed by Islam under such humanitarian laws. Man is best of creation, and everything in the universe is for his service and comforts. Even the heavenly bodies like the sun, moon and star are for men; vegetables, fish and meat supply food to men and beasts of burden help them to go from one country to another. Therefore, the service of men is the goal of lower animals. Do we not sacrifice animals daily? Do we not ride on them? There are innumerate microcosms in water and earth. By drinking we destroy them; and by inhaling and exhaling, we destroy them. Recently science reveals that plants also have got lives. If a plant is cut at the root, the whole plant will die away. Therefore it is impossible for man to live without destroying animals and animal life. Then again, meat is one of the principal foods in cold countries. If they live on vegetables alone, they would live cold like deed men. Thirdly, those nations that are carnivorous are more brave and courageous than those who are herbivorous animals. So, to pluck up the virtue of courage and bravely, meat is essentially necessary. Fourthly, all the religious personalities partook of meat and gave sanction to use it as human food. All these show that sacrifice of animals in some form or other is daily done in our food and that there is no escape out of it.

Animals Praise Allah. In voice of animals, there is praise of Allah. The Holy Quran says: Allah which makes everything speak makes us speak41:21 Q. Do you not see that Allah is He whom do glorify all those who are in the heavens and the earth and the birds with expanded wings. He knows the prayer of each one and its glorification24:41 Q. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) therefore forbade killing animals without necessity and for mere sport, and minimized the horrors of animal slaughter. The Prophet (pbuh) prohibited killing of animals even for medicine when other medicines are available.

Ibn Omar and Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: A woman was punished about a cat which she kept confined till it died of hunger. She did neither give it food, nor set it free that it might eat of the worms of the earth. [1]

Anas reported that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: There is no Muslim who grows a plant or transplants a seed, and then men, birds or beasts eat out of it, but it will not be a Charity for him. Agreed upon it. And in a narration of Muslim from Jaber: And what is stolen there from is a Charity for him.

Ja’ber reported that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: The fire was presented before me and then I saw a woman there in from the Israelites having been punished in respect of a cat belonging to her. She kept it tied up and did neither give it food, nor leave it that it might eat of the worms of the earth till it died of hunger. And I saw Amr-b-A’mer-al-khozayi tearing his entrails in the fire, and he was the first who introduced (the custom of) setting she camels at liberty. [2]

Sahal-b-al-Hanzaliyah reported that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) was passing by a camel whose back reached its belly. He said: Fear Allah with regard to these animals. Ride them in health and leave them in health.

- Abu Daud

Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: An Ant stung a Prophet from the Prophets, so he ordered the village of Ants (to be burnt); and so it was burnt. Then the Almighty Allah revealed to him; An Ant stung you, so you have burnt a class out of so many classes who glorify Allah!

"Reciting Salawath on our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is an activity that will be accepted by Allah, even if we don't have Ikhlas (piety)".

[1] It appears from this that there is a great reward and spiritual benefit in doing good to animals or in supplying their needs. There is this difference that we have wisdom, while the beasts have not, but their bodies want what our bodies require. The injurious animals are an exception to this rule. On the contrary, there are rewards for killing such animals like snakes and tigers.

[2] It was the custom of the Arabs that if a vow was fulfilled or if somebody returned from journey or was curved from a disease; they set a she-camel at liberty to move freely without restriction. It is said that Amr introduced this evil custom and also developed idol worship in Arabia.

Daniel Craig

Daniel Wroughton Craig was born in Chester, England on March 2, 1968. Brought up on the Wirral, he joined the National Youth Theatre at the age of sixteen and graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1991. His early film roles included The Power of One, A Kid in King Arthur's Court and the television episode Sharpe's Eagle.

Daniel Craig

Craig became the sixth actor to portray the fictional secret agent James Bond in the film series of the same name. He made his debut as the character in the 2006 film, Casino Royale, to critical acclaim and was nominated for a BAFTA award. Grossing US$593 million worldwide, it became the highest grossing James Bond film.

Daniel Craig’s Biography

Craig was born in Chester, England on March 2, 1968, the son of Olivia (née Williams), an art teacher, and Timothy John Wroughton Craig, who served as a midshipman in the Merchant Navy and worked in various occupations when he came ashore.

Craig was brought up on the Wirral where his father was landlord of the pubs "Ring 'O Bells" and "The Boot". He attended Hilbre High School and Calday Grange Grammar School. He played for Hoylake Rugby Club. Craig moved to London when he was sixteen to join the National Youth Theatre after a brief stay at Calday.

In Shoot of CASINO ROYALE

Craig studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating in 1991, and appeared in several minor roles including Sharpe's Eagle and an episode of Drop The Dead Donkey in 1993. His first leading role on screen was as a co-star in the 1996 BBC Television serial Our Friends in the North. He continued his work with the BBC by starring in the 1997 Francis Bacon biopic Love Is the Devil: Study for a Portrait of Francis Bacon, portraying Bacon's jilted lover George Dyer. In the latter movie, Craig agreed to be shot in the nude, including full-frontals. 1997 also saw the release of a TV mystery drama, from the Minette Walters novel The Ice House, in which Craig played D.S. Andy McLoughlin.

Following an introduction to international audiences as Angelina Jolie's rival and love interest in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), he continued his career in the United States in Sam Mendes's movie Road to Perdition (2002), with Tom Hanks and Paul Newman. Craig played Connor Rooney, the son of an Irish mob boss (played by Newman) and a conniving murderer who hides behind his mobster father's shadow. Other leading film roles include Sword of Honour (2001), The Mother (2003) with Anne Reid, Sylvia (2003) with Gwyneth Paltrow, Layer Cake (2004) with Sienna Miller, Enduring Love (2004) with Rhys Ifans, Steven Spielberg's Munich (2005), and Infamous (2006).

James Bond (2005–present)

In February 2005, Craig had been named in the media as a possible candidate to portray James Bond. On April 6, 2005, Craig was reported to have signed with EON Productions as part of a three-film contract worth £15 million (US$29,696,972). However, the news was later debunked by the BBC who contacted EON for an official report.

On 23 October 2005, Craig signed a three-film contract. The first film Casino Royale was released on 14 November 2006, and grossed a total of US$594 million, which makes the film the highest grossing Bond film. He stated that he "was aware of the challenges" of the James Bond franchise which he considers "a big machine" that "makes a lot of money". He aimed at bringing more "emotional depth" to the character.

Significant controversy followed with some fans threatening a boycott of the film, and a website was created for the protest. The reason was Craig being blond unlike all preceding James Bond actors. Media coverage of the controversy resulted in numerous actors publicly voicing their support of Craig. Most notably, three of the five previous actors who portrayed Bond – Timothy Dalton, Sean Connery, Roger Moore – called his casting a good decision. Clive Owen, who had been linked to the role, also spoke in defense of Craig. In an interview with The Globe and Mail, Pierce Brosnan was asked, "What do you think of the new James Bond, Daniel Craig, and will you be watching Casino Royale?" He contradicted his own earlier responses and replied, "I'm looking forward to it like we're all looking forward to it. Daniel Craig is a great actor, and he's going to do a fantastic job".

Clive Owen

After the film was released, Craig's performance was highly acclaimed. Critic Paul Arendt of BBC Films, Kim Newman of Empire and Todd McCarthy of Variety all described Craig as the first actor to truly embody the original James Bond from Ian Fleming's novels: "ironic, brutal, and cold". He was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Actor on January 2006, and won the Best Actor award at the Evening Standard British Film Awards on 2 February 2007, both firsts for an actor in the role of James Bond.

Craig went on the Zone diet that Brad Pitt was on for his role in Fight Club, and Queen Latifah for certain scenes in the Last Holiday. The diet consisted of a high protein and low carbohydrates. A widely circulated report on several news channels and newspapers claimed that Craig had lost two teeth filming a fight scene; Craig later said it was just a crown that had come loose. Producer Barbara Broccoli also denied other rumors in an interview with Variety.

As production of Casino Royale reached its conclusion, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced that pre-production work had already begun on the 22nd Bond film. After several months of speculation as to the release date, Wilson and Broccoli officially announced on 20 July 2006 that the currently un-named follow-up film, known only as Bond 22, will be released on 7 November 2008 and that Craig has been signed to play Bond, with an option for a third film. On October 25, 2007, MGM CEO Harry Sloan revealed at the Forbes Meet II Conference that Craig had signed on for four more Bond films, through to Bond 25.

In 2006, Casino Royale became #5 best-selling Bond film of all time; however, with recent DVD and box office sales, it rose to the #2 best-selling Bond film of all time as of 2007. The same year, Craig was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

with Angelina Jolie in TOMB RAIDER

In 2007, Craig moved on to portraying the character of Lord Asriel in the The Golden Compass, the film adaptation of Philip Pullman's novel Northern Lights. Eva Green, who played Bond girl Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale, also starred in the film, although did not appear in any scenes with Craig. In a stage version of the book, Asriel had previously been played by Timothy Dalton, one of Craig's predecessors in the role of James Bond.

In early 2007, Craig expressed an interest in being a part of the Star Trek franchise, professing his love of the series to the World Entertainment News Network and a desire to have a "stint in the TV show or a film. It's been a secret ambition of mine for years." On 16 March 2007, Craig made a cameo appearance as himself in a sketch with Catherine Tate who appeared in the guise of her character Elaine Figgis from The Catherine Tate Show. The sketch was made for the BBC Red Nose Day 2007 fundraising program.

Pierce Brosnan

Pierce Brosnan is an Irish actor who first came to American living rooms as Remington Steele, playing the imposter of a fictitious detective who flirted with Stephanie Zimbalist for five seasons. After the series ended, he played James Bond in four popular 007 films.

AKA Pierce Brendan Brosnan
Born: 16-May-1951

Birthplace: Navan, County Meath, Ireland

Gender: Male

Religion: Roman Catholic

Race or Ethnicity: White

Occupation: Actor

Nationality: Ireland

Executive summary: Remington Steele, James Bond

In the Movie DIE ANOTHER DAY

Pierce Brendan Brosnan was born in Navan, County Meath, Ireland on May 16, 1953. He moved with his family to London in 1964 [apparently on the very same day that Ian Fleming died], where one of the first films he saw was Goldfinger. He became a commercial artist after leaving school, but was introduced to acting by a co-worker who was in a theatre group in the evenings. He left his job for the life of an actor, and entered the Drama Centre in London, where he studied acting for 3 years.

After several years of stage work throughout the UK, he began to work in television and film. His "big break" came with the 1981 ABC-TV mini-series The Manions of America, which led to him getting the title role in the popular long-running detective series Remington Steele, which debuted in 1982.

Rumors began as early as 1984 that Pierce would replace Roger Moore as the next James Bond. Due to contractural obligations, he was unable to accept the role when it was originally offered to him in 1986.

Pierce remained busy as an actor despite that setback, making television mini-series, theatrical films and made-for-cable movies, as well as several TV commercials.

Brosnan eventually met and married a Bond girl, Cassandra Harris, who appeared in Roger Moore's For Your Eyes Only as well as several episodes of Remington Steele. She had gotten the last name Harris some years earlier, when she married the brother of actor and left-the-cake-out-in-the-rain singer Richard Harris. When Cassandra Harris died of ovarian cancer in 1991, Brosnan adopted her two children. Brosnan's father also resurfaced when Brosnan became a star with Remington Steele.

Brosnan was originally offered the role of Bond in 1986, for The Living Daylights, but the makers of Remington Steele would not release him from his contract. He made six more episodes of Steele before the series was cancelled, then snagged the role of Bond almost a decade later with GoldenEye in 1995, when Timothy Dalton was let loose. Brosnan's last turn as Bond came with Die Another Day, in 2002.

While not wearing the Bond tuxedo, his successful films include The Tailor of Panama, After the Sunset, and the 1999 remake of The Thomas Crown Affair. His flops include the silly volcano film Dante's Peak, and the remarkably unromantic romantic comedy Laws of Attraction with Julianne Moore.

He moved with his wife and children to Los Angeles, California, where he Steele was filmed. The series was quite successful, running for more than 4 seasons and 92 episodes. It catapulted Pierce to major stardom in the America.

On June 8, 1994, Pierce Brosnan was unveiled at a huge press conference in London as the 5th James Bond 007. His first Bond film, GoldenEye, grossed over $350 million worldwide, more than any other Bond film to that point. His 2nd Bond film, 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies, grossed more money in the US than GoldenEye. Together, his 4 Bond films have grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide. Brosnan was relieved of his Bond duties in the summer of 2004.

Aside from the Bond and Steele roles, Pierce has had a varied and extensive film and TV career, playing roles ranging from archeologists to assassins, from Chris Columbus' comedies to Merchant Ivory's costume dramas. He also starred in director John (Die Hard) McTiernan's first feature film, Nomads. He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1984 for his portrayal of Robert Gould Shaw in the BBC/Masterpiece Theatre production of Nancy Astor. He was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December 1997 (star #2099), which can be found at 7021 Hollywood Blvd.

In May 2003, Brosnan bought a $1,000 bong from the Dementia head shop in Malibu, California. In his spare time, he is a painter. He has also been active in cancer fund-raising and supporting environmental causes. He was awarded an honorary OBE by the British government for his film and charitable work in July 2003.

In 2004, he took the test, swore the oath, and became an American citizen. His son Christopher has been arrested at least twice on charges of petty theft.
