Zero tolerance towards names

There was a time in Tamil film industry when English names were widely used for titles and nobody complained. But this trend was opposed by various organizations which were trying to combat such a fashion and then came the Tamil Nadu Government's announcement of tax rebate for films with Tamil titles. This was widely welcomed by everyone and many films that had an English name or titles from other languages had quickly changed their names to Tamil. Some of them were Unakkum Enakkum, Sillunnu oru kadhal etc.

Some titles like Sivaji, Billa and Pokkiri were accepted because it was argued that it was only a proper noun. Meanwhile in the name of Tamil titles, there were films like Kettavan, Porukki, and Udambu Eppadi Irukku etc which earned the wrath of Tamil scholars who felt that such titles in no way uphold the tradition or development of the language. Hence the government strictly announces that any title which degrades the language or not in conformity with its growth will not enjoy tax benefit.
